Michael Fowler
Michael Fowler was elected as a Hastings District Councillor in 2022 and in 2025 was re-elected and appointed Deputy Mayor.
He chairs the Council’s standing committee for Performance and Monitoring.
Michael is a Fellow Chartered Accountant (FCA), belonging to Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ), and has been a member for 37 years.
He has a master’s degree in business, majoring in accounting; a post graduate diploma in accounting; and a diploma in business studies, all from Massey University.
During his career he has worked in accountancy public practice; local government; and corporate roles in the meat and horticultural industries.
He has also worked in the telecoms and internet industries and co-founded Radio Hawke’s Bay, a community access radio station.
Michael has owned his own personnel recruitment firm, commercial radio station and currently a publishing company. He has produced 22 historical books since 2005.
Michael has had an academic career, focused on management accounting and improving company performance. His research has been published in top academic journals overseas.
