Darryn Russell

Darryn Russell is the Chief Executive for Tamatea Pōkai Whenua Settlement Trust, a post settlement governance entity within the Ngāti Kahungunu collective, covering the Heretaunga Plains.

He was appointed to the role in September 2021.

His appointment as CEO followed 20 years in senior academic roles at Universities of Otago and University of Canterbury. He has extensive governance experience, holding directorships with Retara Holdings Ltd, as the Chair of DOVE Hawke’s Bay and Hawkes Bay Health Limited.

Darryn has held governance roles across iwi entities, National Crown bodies, regulatory bodies, and community organisations.

Darryn’s personal and professional passion is iwi development, stemming from a community work background, aligned to undergraduate, masters, and to Doctoral academic qualifications.
